Hey, guys. Today we are going to talk about Hot chocolate in all of its magnificent glory!
Winter has officially made its presence known here. I know this for the following reasons which include, but are not limited to:
1. I am cold all the time.
2. I complain about being cold all the time.
3. I refuse to dress appropriately for the coldness.
4. I utter the words “Why do I live here?” on a regular basis.
When the weather gets cold and wet like this there is nothing more comforting to me than cuddling up with blankets, a good book and a hot beverage. I’ve never been much of a hot chocolate person. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just not my drink of choice. Frankly, I’m more of a tea person. Moment of silence for that awkward time when I said “I’m more of a tea person.” However, even though I don’t drink hot chocolate regularly, I’ve realized that it is one of the funnest things to experiment with.
One day last year I came home from some kind of something and Lindsay had surprised me with a hot chocolate masterpiece (recipe coming soon) that changed the way I looked at hot chocolate, and opened my eyes to the possibilities. Hot chocolate to me was always a packet of powder that you just added water to. Whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy. But there is so much more you can do with it!
Two things that I love the most in this world are dark chocolate and caramel. oh, and salt. Can’t forget the precious salt. I decided to make dark chocolate salted caramel hot chocolate, and hot damn it’s good. Messy as all hell, but good. This is the first time I’ve ever made hot chocolate from scratch before. Like, actually taking real chocolate and making a drink out of it, and it was really easy, and really really really good. If you are having company and want to wow the heck out of them without making much of an effort, make this hot chocolate. Trust me. This also gives you the perfect opportunity to whip out your best hot chocolate mugs. If you’re anything like Lindsay and I and have an unhealthy obsession with ceramic drinkware then this is the perfect opportunity to utilize your collection!
So, get out your favorite mugs and try out this hot chocolate!
Side note: As I sit here and write this, I am officially done with college! ( Lindsay, also) It only took me a 1/3 of my life, but, 7 years and 3 degrees later, we are finally finished. Never again will I write an essay or worry that my growling stomach will betray me during a test. NEVER! Peace out, school! Now, if you need me, I’ll just be here Google-ing how to adult.
