Tis the season for festive desserts, and we are here for it.
December is without a doubt the best time of the year. But, it’s also the busiest. There are dinners and parties and snow to be played in and halls to be decked. You get the point. There are so many wonderful things to do and not nearly enough time to do them.
Number one on our December to-do list each year is baking, of course. Holiday desserts are the most fun to make and we look forward to festive treats each year. Problem is, sometimes we just need something that is as quick as it is delicious. In comes Duncan Hines® Devils Food Cake Mix. Duncan Hines is delicious, but convenient and affordable making holiday baking easier than ever. Did we mention that it’s only $1.00?
If you have followed us for even 5 minutes then you KNOW that we are not opposed to using a cake mix. (Remember these?) It is easy, foolproof, and delicious. And now, it’s also versatile. That is where these cookies come in. Who knew you could make delicious cookies with a few simple ingredients meant for cake!?
If you’ve never made cake mix cookies before then we are here to tell you that you need to make cake mix cookies. It’s a game-changer in both the speed department and the yum department. Cake mix cookies are soft and gooey like regular cookies, but they have the density of a brownie that we can’t get enough of.
If you want a real game-changer idea then we suggest keeping these bad boys in the fridge. They are a softer consistency since they are made from cake, but if you put them in the fridge they firm up and get fudgy and addicting. Trust us. JUST DO IT.
All you have to do is mix all of the ingredients together in one bowl (hooray for easy cleanup) and scoop onto a cookie sheet! You can use a spatula if you feel like putting some elbow grease into it, OR if you have the upper body strength of a piece of linguine like we do, you can use a hand mixer for even easier mixing.
We used chocolate ganache to stick on our peppermint candy cane crumbs, but you could also use melted white chocolate or any other type of melted chocolate honestly.

We hope you have a warm and festive holiday season. Stay toasty friends!

Ingredients
- 1 box Duncan Hines® Devils Food Cake Mix
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
For the ganache
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips semi sweet
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

- Let them cool in the fridge or freezer to get them stiff enough to dip in the chocolate ganache. 30 minutes to an hour.
For the ganache
- Heat the heavy cream either in the microwave or on the stove until boiling.
- Stir in the chocolate chips once boiling until combined
- Let cool in the fridge so it thickens and cools.
Assembly
- Once the cookies and ganache are cooled, dip the cookies into the chocolate ganache and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
